In this course candidates are required to identify the reasons for providing horses with non-ridden exercise. This may include exercise purposes as well as training purposes and to describe areas and surfaces suitable for working horses from the ground, reference could be made to the area being enclosed, flat and level, with the ideal surface for lungeing horses being non-slip and non-concussive (unless part of veterinary inspection).
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the candidates with an understanding of the principles of racehorse exercise and performance and how these principles can be applied in practice. This course will introduce the learner to a variety of activities that are fundamental to being able to exercise horses under instruction and ride to improve performance. Throughout this qualification the emphasis will be on safe working and skills required for initial employment in the racing industry. All of these qualifications have been developed in consultation with Scottish trainers
