Work Rider

A ‘Work Rider’ exercises racehorses to provide vital information about their performance and health.

Equipped with strong horsemanship skills, they must have the confidence, control, skill and judgement to ride at a specific speed for a set distance as instructed by the trainer.

The Work Rider provides knowledgeable feedback on how the horse performed as part of the trainers’ programmes of ongoing improvement in fitness and performance.

A Work Rider is also expected to perform other duties too such as saddling, riding and washing off as well as yard duties.
